THE JURY

the jury came in on a monday night
they put their chairs in a row
my flat looked messy
but they pretended to to care
they got pens and papers
and coffee to go

i showed my intentions
i could do this i could do that
i tried a little dance
i did some poses on my bed
i recited a poem with rhymes and all
about how winter was followed
by spring summer and fall

and this is my life through a strangers eye
looks like an unfinished drawing
at the edge of some paper
and although you might consider this
a rather weak position
there's lots of space in this vision

the air was thin
and the light was low
i felt like creating a earthquake
by tipping on my toe
but there was no reaction
only the scratch of the pen
when they're making their notes now and then

i don't know how long they stayed
for an hour for a year
and i can't remember
the way they disappeared
i open the fridge
but there was nothing in it
and i was blinded by the light for a minute
